Once a craving for......sweet Japanese curry

I am not going to write about which restaurant in Tokyo served the best sweet Japanese curry, but I am going to write about which one brand of instant curry out of a few common brands make the best sweet Japanese curry. This idea may sounds filling but it had saved me from wondering what to make for my lunchbox. As you might know that making bento or lunchbox is one of the must-do's as a student on economical mode, and no complaints as I get to experiment the different varieties from competing brands.

My friend, Debbie said that it was difficult to find or cook delicious Japanese curry meal in Singapore. So I am dedicating this blog to her and hope that she will find time to make this so-good and so-sweet Japanese curry meal for herself and loved ones too.

Very fortunately, my kind colleague from Keio Medical Hospital,  gave me some fresh onions from her hometown, Furano, in Hokkaido. It was my first time to receive such down-to-earth gift. For me, the ways to enjoy these few onions were to cook them in miso tofu soup or Japanese curry. Of course, my craving was sweet Japanese curry and the first lucky curry block I would like to recommend is 'Mediterranean Curry' or '地中海カレー' from S&B Japan.

What so special about this curry block was that green olives and tomatoes were added to give the obvious Mediterranean taste. And I was surprised that it turned out to be really delicious that I recommended this brand and taste to my fellow Japanese friends too. S&B is an established brand in Japan and this pack of taste-so-good-curry have just made me trust their brand even deeply.

Generally, I would purchase ingredients that I love to eat with curry such as pumpkin, eggplant, broccoli, cabbage and shimeji mushroom. Firstly, i would stir-fry all the ingredients one by one with oil. Although the instruction says to add milk, I would prefer to cook it all with water only. Apparently it contains a lot of corn starch, and I do not like the 'too sticky' texture after adding milk, so I skipped the milk and only water is added at the last step. Trust me that the block is heavily freeze-dried with great tasty, herbal and aromatic ingredients that a less viscous one is better when topped onto rice or flat udon そうめん.

Whether you are eating the cooked sweet Japanese curry immediately, or re-heating it during lunch, it would surely satisfy your craving. So, why wait? Grab a pack with a few fresh ingredients and make this sweet Japanese curry for your loved ones and friends.
